International Relations Analyst, Dr. Richard Amoako-Baah has told Citi News government’s challenge to UK authorities over the Nayele Ametefeh cocaine saga is an “unnecessary diversionary tactic.”
The Communication’s Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah on Saturday dared the UK government to disclose whether or not the suspected cocaine courier, Nayele Ametefeh had a diplomatic passport in her possession.

But Dr. Amoako-Baah told Citi News, the UK security agencies cannot be forced to divulge information on the said case.
“They are doing their investigation and if they are not finished, nobody can force them to release information and so when they are good and ready, then they release that,” he said.
He observed that unlike Ghana where politicians get involved in every issue, “the Police in the UK do their work independent of the politician…We think everybody in the world behave as we do.”
The International Relations Analyst counseled government to focus on unraveling the mystery behind how the lady was able take the over 12kilograms of cocaine out of the country.
“A private citizen arrested carrying this much cocaine was not intercepted at Kotoka but it was able to get through. How was she able to get through? That is what is important back here and if we are serious, that is what we should be looking at and not talking about somebody else in the UK,” he remarked.
Nayele Ametefeh was on November 10 arrested at the Heathrow Airport in the UK for possessing 12kg of cocaine.
Some persons including an Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Abiel Ashitey Armah have been arrested in connection with the matter while the acting Director of Passports, Alexander Ntrakwa has been questioned by the Bureau of National Investigations.
