Over 70 Police officers have been deployed to Akyem Tumfa in the Atiwa District in the Eastern Region, to prevent the youth of the area from attacking and destroying equipment of a gold mining company in the area.
A few weeks ago, the youth there, demonstrated against the Eastern Regional Minister Antwi Boasiako Sekyereh for selling out their cocoa farms to mining firm, Step Mining Company.
[contextly_sidebar id=”mFVCQzR6ljSPNXeIzOmvKiknEdrnql8L”]A resident in the area who gave his name as Maxwell, told citifmonline.com that, “we are currently in the bush running away from the Police because they are torturing us in the town.”
“We have been growing cocoa for years, so if we allow them to cut down the cocoa trees how are we going to survive?” he asked.
He also alleges that the Police are assaulting the youth after arresting them.
Reports also say the Assembly Woman of the area, Comfort Nyarko, has been declared wanted by the police.
