The Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has alleged that  some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are thwarting developmental efforts in her constituency .

The Ablekuma West legislator among other things, referred to the delay in the construction of an ultra modern clinic at Mpoase, near Dansoman as an example of “political discrimination” against her.

[contextly_sidebar id=”oha822GyMjMwZfpvNgXicCH9znFHsgMr”]According to her, the NDC gurus in the area believe that the completion of the project would enhance her political fortunes, hence their decision to prevent its completion.

“It is an area in which majority of the people vote NDC. Their fear is that if the MP, who is NPP puts up a clinic there, maybe people will tend to vote for the MP so let us wait so the NDC can come and do that so we can take credit for it. I think it is very silly.”

Speaking in an interview with Citi News on the sidelines of the Center For Democratic Development’s (CDD)  MPs Accountability And Responsiveness Forum, the MP said she will not mind building the clinic at the cost of her political fortunes, saying, “I don’t care if they will allow us to build the clinic and continue to vote for the NDC if they want to, so long as the clinic will come up.”

Ursula Owusu is not the first to accuse the NDC of hindering development in selected constituencies.

The Member of Parliament for Dome/Kwabenya, Adwoa Safo also accused the Mahama-led administration of sidelining her constituency because she belongs to the opposition NPP.

“I am not interested in scoring points, I’m interested in doing what I can do within these four years, to ensure that the little I can do to improve the lives of the people gets done. It is a desire that they [NDC] themselves expressed when I was campaigning and they themselves told me that they will support and provide whatever help I need to also assist them get the clinic done,” Ursula added.
