Newly-elected presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to officially announce Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate for the 2016 general elections on Thursday.
Nana Addo is expected to meet with the National Council of the party to announce his decision, per the requirements of the party’s constitution.
Dr. Bawumia, was the running-mate of Nana Addo in both the 2008 and 2012 general elections and many political watchers say he would be the best fit, considering his political maturity over the period and depth of knowledge about the country’s economy.
Nana Addo, last Friday ahead of the party’s National Delegates Congress, revealed his intention to retain Dr. Bawumia as his running- mate in the 2016 elections should he be elected flagbearer.
“I’ve said so publicly already that were I to be privileged once again with the honour of leading this party, that I want to have Dr. Bawumia by my side,” Nana Addo said on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana programme.
Citi News’ correspondent in the Northern Region Abdul Karim Naatogmah reported that NPP Chairmen and their Secretaries from the three regions of the north have already arrived in Accra for the meeting.

NPP Nasara Coordinator for Tamale Central constituency, Abdul Rahaman Samari Nasara stated: “We will make sure that he becomes the next President of this country not because of anything but for the trust that he has put in us Muslim community and as well our beloved brother, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for consistently maintaining him as his running mate.”

The members of the NPP’s National Council are to meet and deliberate on the party’s agenda for 2016.
