The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS), has said not all of the 250 students of Labone Senior High School in Accra who have been cited for poor performance will be sent home.
Two hundred and fifty students of the Labone Senior High School (SHS) have been sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, 2014.
The students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent home when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began.

171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have also been asked to repeat their class.
But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, the President of CHASS, Charles Ofori Agyei explained that “it is not a cut and dry thing that all the 250 have been dismissed and are going home”
Mr. Agyei further justified the school’s decision to sack students who fail, saying, ”the withdrawal is for their own good.”
He said various Senior High Schools do not take a unilateral decision to withdraw students from their respective schools, adding that, they [school authorities] seek the consent of both the ward’s parents and teachers before taking such decisions.
“What is the advantage of rushing a slow learner through the system and then he ends up by making 8 Fs?” he asked.
According to him, some parents are sometimes compelled to ask school authorities to repeat their wards due to their poor academic performance.
Mr. Agyei called for a collaboration between teachers, parents and the media to enable students excel.
“ For us to obtain good results, the teacher must teach but the students should also learn well.”
