The Ministry of Transport has asked domestic airline operators and passengers to bear with government as they upgrade the Kumasi Airport.
Domestic airline operators have registered their displeasure over the intermittent closure of the Kumasi Airport, without due notification by the Ghana Airport Company.
The situation according to the domestic airline operators started last Friday and has caused them some huge losses.
The renovation according to the ministry is to modernize the airport due to the increasing air passenger flights to Kumasi.

“To the best of my knowledge some disruption will be experienced especially with the morning flights but I will want to call on our domestic carriers to bear with us. We want to ensure that we make that airport safe and efficient knowing that safety is one of the key word when it comes to the aviation industry,” she said.
The minister added that the ministry wants to ensure that the airport is safe for passengers to use.
According to madam Mogtari, she had consulted the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the Ghana Airport Company limited to resolve the challenges of the operators.
I just want to use your platform to appeal to the domestic airlines to bear with us; I do admit that yes some disruption has been caused to their morning schedules but we all also admit that there is the need for us to modernize the Kumasi Airport which will make the place safe for flights to take off and land at the airport.”
Meanwhile officials of the Ghana Airport company have also told Citi Business News the unpredictable weather patterns which have also disrupted the operations of the contractor working on the runway.
The officials say the rains have fallen during the contractor’s working hours contrary to forecasted weather.
The contractor hence has had to extend his working hours into the early hours of the morning to allow the runway to be used.
