Weeks after a devastating rain completely cut of the District capital of Adaklu from neighbouring communities rendering scores of residents homeless, the district coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is calling on government to fix road network in the district to avert such occurrences.
According to Mr Frank Todzro the Adaklu District NADMO coordinator, in spite of a promise by late president, Prof Evans Atta Mills, to improve the roads in the area, roads linking the district capital Waya have never seen any major engineering works.
Roads linking Waya-Mafi-Kumasi, Waya- Ziope Akatsi , and Waya-Agotime Kpetoe are in deplorable and life threatening state he said.
[contextly_sidebar id=”P68qeZVBrerqLUxgTlZbgnsJI7Vzb2yO”]”The challenge we have here is the nature of the road, that doesn’t mean that when the roads are constructed, we would not have floods but for Adaklu we have peculiar case; If the roads were constructed, access to the capital could be at ease even during the flood.’’
The recent of such rains, flooded homes with the major roads submerged in the flood.
The district capital Waya was cut off completely from neighbouring communities that depend on her for foodstuffs and other agriculture produce. Health workers were seen carried shoulder high to cross the flood waters to their centres to take care of patients.
The NADMO coordinator’s made the call during donation of relieve items to the flood victims by the district assembly and the national disaster management organisation.
Bags of rice, bales of blanket, boxes of match stick and assorted items were presented to the victims.
The chief executive of the adaklu district assembly Mr Emmanuel sky Ganaku advised residents to desist from building on water ways.
He however disclosed to citinews that as part of measures to avert future occurrence of the disaster flood zones would be bordered in the district and residents would be prevented from raising structures in those areas.
