Bunbong-Naayili is a farming community in the Yendi Municipality where early marriage and child betrothal is common.
Some parents are compelled to marry off their girl child at tender ages because of poverty.
The chiefs in the area in collaboration with Non Governmental Organizations are making efforts to stop this practice because the phenomenon is affecting girl child education.

He described early marriage and child betrothal as outmoded customary practices which must be discarded in Bunbong-Naayili and its environs.
He said education of the girl child should be the collective responsibility of all.
Ubor Dawuni Wumbei exclusively spoke to Citi News at the 2014 Linujil (Yam Festival) celebrated by the chiefs and people of Bunbong-Naayili in the Yendi Municipality.
The festival which attracted people from all walks of life was on the theme, “Unity and development.”
It also emerged that school dropout was high in the community which could boast of only 20 teachers.
