The camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyeremanten, has described their opponent Nana Akufo Addo, as a “monumental failure,” citing his inability to bring the NPP to power after two attempts.
According to a Press Secretary to Alan Kyeremanten,Chief Mohammed Obosu, the two time presidential candidate lacks the ability to win an election, especially in 2016.
“I think that the evidence is clear, it is about the statistics. Infact in 2000, the NPP won elections and in 2004 we were able to maintain same. But in 2008, Nana Akufo Addo was voted as the flagbearer of the party and despite the incumbency, …he was able to lead the party into opposition…floating voters or sympathizers of other parties, will tell you that if you bring Alan Kyeremanten we will vote for him.”

“The fact is that, Mr. Alan Kyerematen has never been given the opportunity to lead our great party. It is, therefore, out of place for people to equate the monumental failure of Nana Akufo Addo to retain the party in power in 2008 and also the excruciating defeat in 2012, to the inability of Mr. Alan Kyerematen to lead the party on two occasions, though, on his first attempt in 2007, he for the sake of party unity graciously decided to step down for Nana Akufo Addo,”he said.
Mohammed Obosu is therefore calling on the party delegates to reject Nana Addo on Saturday.
But in a rebuttal, an aide to Nana Akuffo Addo, David Asante called on NPP delegates to disregard the statement from Mr. Obosu.
He said Obosu does not have any evidence to support his claims against the Nana Addo
“I least expected that from an aide to Alan Kyeremanten. However we are confident that Nana Addo has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that he has the support of the delegates and that he is the candidate we can follow for elections 2016.Whoever thinks he is the best person to unlock the success of the 2016 elections should first of all win the over 5million support base in NPP.In any case Alan has attempted it twice and he’s lost miserably.”
Addressing a meeting of delegates ahead of the October 18 congress on Monday, Alan Kyeremanten said he has a “clear” track record both in Ghana and around the world to merit the votes of the delegates.
He further asked delegates to carefully examine all the contenders vying for the flagbearership slot before voting.
“When people want to contest for positions, I think what voters need to do is to find out what their record is. We have to separate ambition from ability and the fact that you want to be President. We all have ambitions but the issue is not about your ambition, it is about your capacity and your ability and that ability must be based on your record,” Alan said.
