A suspected armed robber believed to be in his early 30s has been lynched at Pieng while two other suspects were also apprehended at Nabulo, both in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region.
The incident occurred after they allegedly robbed and terrorized some members of the two communities and 7 other adjoining villages.
The suspects who were arrested in separate incidents are alleged to be part of a notorious robbery gang terorizing residents in the area.
Briefing the media at the Upper West Regional Police headquarters in Wa, the acting Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Edmond Nyamekye, said Police in Tumu have for the past few days received many reports about the operations of a robbery gang in the Sissala East and West Districts.
He said various security measures were put in place but no arrest was made until about 7pm on Tuesday when his men received reports from two complainants.
The acting PRO said: “We quickly mobilized and got to the scenes but upon arrival at Pieng, one of the suspects was found dead lying in opine position in a pull of blood with deep cutlass wounds all over his body.”
One other suspect was said to have escaped but the Police managed to save two of the suspects from mob attack at Nabulo.
He said the two were identified as Abu Salam 30 and Yussif Hamidu 19.
ASP Nyamekye added that the Police have launched investigations into the matter but are yet to identify the dead suspect whose remains have been deposited at the Upper West regional hospital mortuary in Wa.
