President John Mahama has revealed that failure of donors who pledged financial support for the West African Sub-region to fight the deadly Ebola disease to fulfill their promises is hampering the fight against the disease.

“A lot of money has been pledged but most of it is not on the ground yet and been put into effect,” President Mahama stated.
He said the situation is hampering the region’s determination to check the spread of the disease.
Ebola has so far claimed over 20,000 lives in the West African sub region.
Though frantic efforts are underway to control the disease, the WHO has predicted that about 20,000 extra people are likely to be affected in the near future.
The President has therefore emphasized the need to speed up processes to effectively fight the deadly disease.
“We need to speed up the roll out of all these pledges. The processes in terms of budgeting, in terms of putting in the procurement are quite cumbersome and so, if we can speed that up, it will help greatly.”
On the setting up of a logistics centre in Ghana, President Mahama said plans are underway to establish the facility on time.
The facility, when completed will be used as a logistics base for the international fight against the disease.
