The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Northern Regional internal election is getting heated.

Six persons including the incumbent Chief Sofo Azorka are competing for the regional Chairmanship position.

The other five seeking to unseat Chief Sofo Azorka are Ibrahim Alhassan Boham (a contractor), Abu Iddrisu Kpenaa (a chief), Alhaji Ibrahim Alhassan Libron (a contractor), Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulai Mobila also (a chief) and Mohammed Sumani Zakari, son of the late NDC Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Sumani Zakaria.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Kh8OxVLmiTTa6GiRKx4UnMtmj7ovYwOt”]Unlike elsewhere in the southern part of the country where some NDC constituency and regional elections are in limbo following law suits, no threat of litigation has been brought against that of the Northern Regional contest.

All aspirants for the various positions are Kris Crossing the length and breadth of the region meeting the delegates.

One of the six Chairman aspirants, Ibrahim Alhassan Boham has suggested the need to expand the party’s Electoral College across board.

He lamented, “People take advantage of the delegates system choosing a few people to go and choose a representative for the party: I think for the party to have a fair representation the Electoral College should be expanded.”

This in his estimation will give all card bearing members the opportunity to elect competent executives at all levels to represent the party.

According to Ibrahim Alhassan Boham, the next Northern Regional NDC Chairman should be an intellectual who can well represent the region on any political platform.

“Since the party was brought to the north except one Mr. Gado Sulemana who came briefly, all the Chairmen that we have from the north were not able to express themselves in meetings: we must change from that decision.”

He explained factors which informed his to join the race saying, “In fact my reason for contesting the Chairmanship came from the fact that we were told they were going to use the biometric system which involves every card bearing member of the party.”

Citi News checks discovered that 350 delegates constitute the NDC’s Northern Regional Electoral College.
