A Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound has been commissioned for the chiefs and people of Dinkra community in the Nkoranza North District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The facility, which will provide accessible health care to more than 5,000 people, was constructed at a cost of GHC 216,000 and funded by the MTN Ghana Foundation.
Its features include a general OPD, Delivery Room, Consulting rooms, Nurses station, labor ward and accommodation for staff.
Addressing the gathering at the commissioning, Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Senior Commercial Manager for the Northern Business District of MTN reiterated MTN’s commitment to supporting the provision of health care facilities to ease access to health delivery, especially in rural communities in Ghana.
He said, “The MTN Ghana Foundation was moved by the stories of people who lost their lives travelling long distances to access health care from other communities and we could not refuse the request to support when the District Health Directorate approached us to construct this CHPS compound.”
“We are hopeful that this facility will change the story earlier told about health care delivery in the Dinkra community, where people died of ailments that could easily be treated.” We urge you to adopt the best maintenance practice to preserve the facility for future generations,” he added.
The chairman of the occasion, Nana Agyemang Kodom IV, Paramount Chief of Nkoransa Traditional Area, was full of appreciation to MTN for supporting the district with a facility they have needed for some time.
In his remarks, the Director of Health Service for the Nkoransa North District, Mr. Donatus K. Achisiba, said, “We hope the provision of this facility will help reduce maternal and infant mortality rate, provide and promote buy vardenafil online services such as child welfare, antenatal and post natal care services, health education and counseling services.” He expressed his appreciation to the MTN Ghana Foundation for responding to the needs of the people of Dinkra when they approached it for help.
Other dignitaries present during the commissioning include: the Member of Parliament for Nkoransa North Hon. Major Rtd. Derek Oduro, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Agyei Kwadwo Dwomo, District Coordinating Director, Mr. Adams, Chief of Dromankese, Nana Danso Abeam II, as well as Health workers in the district.
The MTN Ghana Foundation has demonstrated its determination to enhance quality health care in the 10 regions of Ghana. Health projects undertaken in the Brong Ahafo region include, a donation of a neonatal incubators to the Goaso Government Hospital and the presentation of a ventilators to the Sunyani District Hospital. It also includes the construction of a male and female ward for the Sene Government Hospital.
MTN Foundation has undertaken a total of eight Health and Education related projects to the tune of over 1.1 million Ghana cedis in the Brong Ahafo region.
The MTN Foundation is established by the MTN Group Board as the vehicle for effectively administering MTN’s Corporate Social Responsibility contributions. The Foundation is funded by a percentage of profit after tax (PAT) of the relevant operating unit.
The MTN Foundation has also launched several projects including two flagship projects since its establishment in November 2007. These are the refurbishment of the 2nd floor Maternity block of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and establishment of 10 MTN ICT Learning Centres in all regions of Ghana. More than 40 other projects have been implemented across the country.
