The Paramount chief of Aflao Traditional area Togbui Amenya Fiti V is appealing to government and appropriate bodies to call to order moves by the Anlo traditional area to “impose” a chief installed from Anlo to usurp his powers as the paramount chief.
Togbui Fiti who emphatically denied being part of the Anlo Traditional Council said he owes no allegiance to the council backing his stance on a section of the chieftaincy act that allows paramount chiefs to be autonomous.
He also accused the Anlo traditional area of employing a divide and rule tactics to destroy the peace his traditional area is currently enjoying.
[contextly_sidebar id=”GB4cWSHj0jyN61FZo0njENrZRAHe1TpN”]In a three-paged communiqué, the paramount chief explained how his fore fathers succeeded the throne on the merits of bravery of Fiti who fought and defeated a pirate ship that arrested and killed the brother Togbui Quakoe Ahonor VIII who was then the paramount chief of the traditional area.
The statement however took cognizance, the fact that there was a government gazette in 1912 by the then governor of gold coast Herbert Bryan that grouped ten independent tribal groups including Aflao into one administrative unit of Quittah District as it was done in other areas of the country at the time, based on administrative exigency.
Togbui Amenya Fiti V was quick to remind the Anlo Traditional Council not to mistaken the said administrative unit as an adherence to their powers.
He said ‘’the people of Aflao very much cherish this partnership in development thus created among the Anlos and other neighbours by the said government gazette and would wish this type of partnership or alliance to continue with due respect of each other as equals but not as the king and his subjects’’
Togbui Amenya Fiti V has however appealed to government to intervene into the boiling issue before it spills out of control.
He added that ‘’for the interest of peace and security, Mr Kwadzovi Fiho shall be welcome to Aflao as an ordinary citizen or native but not as chief until otherwise directed by court of competent jurisdiction.’’
On Friday, a High Court in Ho in the Volta Region, has remanded into Police custody, the claimant of the Aflao stool Togbui Afla Awuno Detu IX.
Torgbui Afla Detu and five others were arrested by the Police on Thursday after defying Police orders not to enter the town after security intelligence revealed his actions could spark violence.
