The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2012 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated his belief that the party was cheated during the 2012 elections.
Speaking at an event in Kumasi to mark the first anniversary of the election petition verdict, Nana Addo said “it is painful to lose an election, but the pain shouldn’t be as a result of being cheated during the process.”
“Never again should anybody tamper with results in an election,” he added.
The NPP challenged the results of the 2012 presidential elections, claiming that it was rigged in favor of incumbent, President Mahama.
The nine-member panel of judges who presided over the hearing of the election petition, however, declared President Mahama as the legitimately elected president.
Addressing supporters in Kumasi, Nana Addo said the party will approach the next elections with the experience from the August 29, 2013 verdict on the election petition.
He called on Ghanaians to force the Electoral Commission to implement the recommendations of the Supreme Court ahead of the 2016 elections.
“Ghanaians deserve and demand a reliable electoral system,” he stated.
Nana Addo also promised to bring the NPP back into power and move Ghana into prosperity.
