Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko has alleged that the people who besieged the party’s headquarters on Tuesday wielding knives and machetes were members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Some angry persons stormed the premises of the NPP headquarters on Tuesday with machetes and knives disrupting an on-going press conference and attacked supporters of the party.
These individuals were alleged to be angry supporters of the New Patriotic Party.
However, in an interview with Citi FM’s Richard Dela Sky, the chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko debunked the allegations and insisted the party’s investigations showed that the intruders were NDC members.
“I don’t know them, I was told they were intruders and their vehicles had been vandalized. I went to speak to them and they said they heard of the press conference and they came and our boys said they are NDC people” he said.
Narrating how events unfolded at the party’s headquarters, “when I come down stairs the party’s security said there were intruders in our yard and they were trying to get rid of those intruders and that led to the altercations”
Mr Afoko also disclosed that“ I saw one gentleman with a machete and I told him since he was one of our boys to put that weapon away and he did”
Meanwhile, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Dotse Ampaw attributed Tuesday’s incident to the accumulated frustration of NPP faithfuls.
“You see there is a very deep seated anger boiling amongst them and that anger I’m telling you that the full venom of it is going to be seen in 2016” – he said
He added that “all that you are seeing here is a little bit of demonstration. I’m telling you 2016 let any word get out that somebody has tried to rig an election, I’m telling you if we are not careful we are going to burn this country.”
