The 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr. Bawumia says he had sleepless nights throughout the hearing of the 2013 election petition case.
“I didn’t have a sound sleep. Infact throughout the case I don’t think I ever slept soundly because I was leading the cadres. I was the principal witness,”Dr. Bawumia stated.
The NPP challenged the results of the 2012 elections at the Supreme Court alleging the results were rigged to favour John Dramani Mahama.
The Supreme Court however declared President Mahama as the winner of the 2012 elections.
Dr. Bawumia further described the night before the verdict as a night full of “rumour.”
“You had so many people saying hey its 6:3,I have spoken to this person and its 6:3. And someone would call and say its 7:2”
The 2012 Vice Presidential candidate said though the NPP lost the case eventually, he had a positive outlook about it.
“I have mixed feelings about it but I am very positive in my outlook about its impact on the development of our democracy and our legal system”.
Today is exactly a year after the historic Election Petition challenged President John Mahama’s legitimacy at the 2012 polls.
