Boxer Abdul Omar gave Team Ghana its second medal in the Commonwealth Games after he won bronze in the Men’s Flyweight 52kg.
Omar lost his semi-finals to Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem in three rounds and picked up the medal for his efforts.
He joins Razak Abugri, the judoka, as the only medal winners in Ghana’s contingent at the Games.
Omar’s conqueror, Waseem will take on Andre Moloney in the final on Saturday 2nd August at the SECC Hall in Glasgow.
OMAR’S PATH TO BRONZE
Round of 32- He had a bye and got a “free” pass to the next round
Round of 16- He beat J.K. Raka of Papua New Guinea in three rounds (29-27, 30-26 and 29-28)
Quarter final- He beat Sri Lanka’s Anurudha Rathnayake in a split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27)
