Cemeteries in the Ho Municipality in the Volta Region are overstretched far beyond its limits.
In view of this, the Adaklu District Assembly is now charging high fees before allocating a plot of land to bereaved families to bury their loved ones.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Emmanuel Sky Ganaku disclosed to Citi News that the initiative was to enable the assembly generate enough revenue to finance its upcoming projects.
“We are trying to put up a prestigious cemetery near Ho because the Ho cemetery has grown over bounds now and we have a land and people can come and burry for a fee,” he said.
This fee according to the DCE, will depend on whether the deceased is an adult or a child and it will cost a maximum of GH¢ 5,000.
He also indicated that plans are far advanced to improve the tourism potentials of the district.
“We want to go into painting of our rock, just as the Chinese have done. We are looking for people who can do the painting for us. Then that will increase the tourism potential of the area,” he explained
