The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has denied the match-fixing allegations levelled at him by the Daily Telegraph, describing the story implicating him in the scandal as a ‘cut and paste’ work.
“No Football Association will sign a contract with any match fixer to fix its games and if you look at the tape, it was a handiwork of cut and paste, “ Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi clarified.
The Daily Telegraph, two weeks ago, alleged that Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi had agreed to fix friendly games for Ghana Black Stars.
But speaking at a GFA press conference, Mr. Nyantakyi noted that the Daily Telegraph in a bid to “cut off evidence that wipes off the strength of their case”, presented a cut and paste story to the public.
Mr. Nyantakyi confirmed that he had not agreed with anybody to fix any matches involving the Black Stars.
Rather, he revealed that he was approached by a prospective investor who expressed the desire to buy the rights to the Black Stars matches for the next year.
“I asked a lot of questions about the competency and the capability of the company and its officers and during the discussions I made it clear to them that the GFA will not be willing to lock itself with a company that we [GFA] didn’t have much information about,” Mr. Nyantakyi explained.
Mr. Nyantakyi revealed that he only asked the company to send a proposal to the GFA for its consideration before it could undertake any major project with it.
“As a suggestion ,the only way we[GFA] could sign with them even in the future was for them to organize one or two games. Even on that, I proposed to them to send a proposal to the FA for our consideration.”
He clarified that the earlier proposal the company sent, had been presented to the legal committee for consideration and advice.
