The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District has ordered a suspected mentally-challenged man to be held in prison custody for allegedly clubbing a farmer to death.

Kwame Brentuo was said to have hit the deceased Baba Nsor, a father of five, several times with a big club until he dropped dead.

The incident occurred at Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District on Wednesday, July 09.

The court, presided over by David P.W. Amedior, adjourned further hearing of the case indefinitely to allow the accused to be sent to a psychiatric hospital for thorough medical examination to determine whether he is fit to stand trial or not.

Nsor’s cassava farm had been reportedly destroyed by Brentuo and angered by this act; Nsor took a stick and started hunting for him.

The accused, on seeing Nsor with a cane in hand started running away but he gave him a hot chase.

At some point, Brentuo got exhausted and took refuge at the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in that town.

Nsor, who was bent on punishing him for the mischief, waited till he came out and as he started running again, Nsor continued to pursue him and that was when the trouble began.

The accused stopped at a school, engaged Nsor in a scuffle in the course of which he first hit him in the head and later with a big club until Nsor fell unconscious and died in cold blood.

The teachers in the school reported the case to the police and Brentuo was arrested.

The body of the deceased had since been deposited at the Asante Mampong Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
