Members of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union(ICU) are currently demonstrating in Tema.
The demonstration is to protest what the Union describes as worsening economic conditions in the country.
The Union says the high cost of living and the depreciating cedi among others is gradually becoming insurmountable hence the decision to protest.
The Tema Regional Officer of the ICU, Eleazer Nyawunu in an interview with Citi News said the present state of the economy is already leading to job cuts and industry collapse.
“Our members are suffering, Ghanaians in general are lamenting but they are not able to come up…”
“Having waited patiently from the beginning of the year, and especially the past weeks, it has become necessary for us to take this step to send a signal to government that all is not well…,”Mr. Nyawunu said.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Nyawunu further noted that government is constantly introducing unfavourable policies despite Ghana’s poor economic conditions.
Meanwhile the Tema Regional Police Command has cautioned miscreants to avoid using the demonstration to perpetrate crime and undermine public safety.
