The family of the 22-year-old Central University student, who was allegedly raped by a medical doctor, Nicholas Mensah Wood, is calling for justice for the alleged victim.
The case is currently under investigation at the Tema Division of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
A family member of the alleged victim told Citi News on condition of anonymity, that the alleged victim had told him that “she couldn’t sit properly” and had problems walking as well.
He added that the victim needs serious medical attention which the family was unable to afford.
He said he was disappointed that the suspect has been granted bail after his arrest on July 18.
He also alleged that the doctor’s position and influence contributed to his release.
Lawyer Oscar Asante, Dr. Wood’s counsel, had argued that the charge preferred against his client was a fabrication, explaining that his client and the victim had been dating and that the victim consented before the sex act.
However, the victim’s relative is convinced of the suspect’s guilt and says that he expects him to be severely dealt with to serve as a deterrent to other people.
