Presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, has asked government to urgently form a bi-partisan group of advisers to help them address the nation’s current economic challenges.
“It is no longer a matter of public debate that Ghana’s economy is in crisis; I will like to make a proposal to government, that as a matter of urgency it should put together a bi-partisan team of expects to develop and formulate a new economic reconstruction program for Ghana,’’ he said.
According to him, the new economic reconstruction should have the private sector, business interest and job creation at the centre.
Mr. Kyerematen was speaking at the NPP’s headquarters on Thursday when he filed his nomination to contest the party’s primaries for presidential candidates.
“… This program should be anchored to address four key issues affecting Ghana; to arrest the decline in the value of our currency, to significantly reduce government borrowing, thirdly to reduce inflation on a long-term basis and lastly for government to introduce policy measures that will lead to a decline in interest rate,’’ he suggested.
Alan Kyeremanteng is the first to file his nomination and is optimistic that he will get the mandate of the NPP to lead the party as the flagbearer.
Other interested presidential hopefuls who are yet to submit their nominations forms are Mr Joe Ghartey, Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, former MP for Offinso North, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, MP for Assuogyaman, Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, the 2008 and 2012 flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and former Information Minister, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
The aspirants paid GHc10, 000 for picking the nomination forms.
