Head coach of the national under-17 team, the Black Starlets, Paa Kwesi Fabin has stated that his team is still keeping its sharpness despite the absence of an opponent in the second round of the 2015 African Under-17 Championship qualifiers.
Ghana’s foes, South Sudan, withdrew from the competition and that has left the Black Starlets waiting for the winner of the tie between Cameroon and Burkina Faso in the final round of qualifiers.
Fabin told Citi Sports in an interview on Tuesday that the team was disappointed with South Sudan’s decision but they had to remain prepared for the next match.
“The boys were really poised for action and they were taken aback by the South Sudanese and their decision. We have spoken to them and told them to focus on the final round. Victory there will take us to the main tournament.”
The finals of the African Championships will take place in Niger in 2015 where the four semi-finalists will qualify for the World U-17 Championships in Chile later in 2015.
