The Director of African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Rasheed Dramani has described the choice of Mr. Alban Bagbin as Majority leader as the best decision for Ghana’s Parliament.
Mr. Bagbin was appointed as Majority leader after President John Mahama nominated the current occupier, Benjamin Kumbour for the position of Minister for Defence in a Ministerial reshuffle announced on Wednesday.
Explaining why the move is a best decision, Dr. Draman opined that “ I think Hon. Bagbin has a lot of experience. If I’m not mistaken, he is one of the two or three remaining experienced MPs in Parliament.”
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Dr. Draman said Hon. Bagbin also “remains one of the few experienced Ministers dedicated to Parliamentary work.”
Dr. Draman was optimistic Mr. Bagbin’s appointment will give him an opportunity to engage more with government.
“Being a Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and at the same time a leader of government business…for me I look at the positive side of it because there would be a lot of opportunities for the leader to engage government.”
He also expressed the belief that Mr. Babgin will be more assertive and firm in his tenure of office.
