The Accra Compost and Recycling plant has resumed operations after closing for two months.
The Plant was shut down due to government’s failure to release funds for its operations.
Government has for the past two years reneged on its financial commitment to the plant, forcing managers of the plant to shut down and lay off about hundred employees.
But speaking to Citi News, the Marketing Manager of the facility, Michael Padi Tuwor confirmed that government had settled about 40% of the debt, enabling the company to re-start operations.
“We started receiving waste from the Assemblies since yesterday,” he said.
He further expressed management’s commitment to redeploy employees who were laid off.
“We promised that this situation was not a permanent one and once we have received payment from government we will call them back.”
He was however quick to add that management will rather redeploy its employees gradually than “calling everyone at a goal.”
