The Amenfi East Constituency Youth Wing of the ruling National Democratic Congress are asking President John Mahama to re-assign the former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Oppong Fosu who was fired last week.
Secretary to the Youth Wing, Nicholas Bimpong at a press conference said Akwasi Oppong Fosu until his dismissal served satisfactorily.
He therefore pleaded with the government “not to just dump such useful material”.
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Oppong Fosu was last week relieved of his post and has been replaced by Eastern Regional Minister, Julius Debrah.
President Mahama in accordance with Article 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana reshuffled some of his ministers resulting in the sacking of Akwasi Oppong Fosu.
No reason was given for his sacking.
The youth wing say the sacked Minister is known to be a performing Minister for over 18 years and has the capacity to deliver in all sectors he is assigned. According to them “the records are there for everyone to see”.
“He was the chairman of the 2008 transition team and the head of local government service for 4 years. We are pleading with the President; the constitution… mandates him to reshuffle and appoint or sack, but as Hon. Akwasi Oppong was sacked without reassigning him to any other position, we are pleading with him, our own president to reassign him,” Bimpong pleaded.
