The Northern Youth for Peace and Development (NYPD) has served notice of a counter demonstration if the chiefs and people of Ho in the Volta Region demonstrate on Wednesday.
The Executive Director of the NYPD, Prince Hardi Adams threatened that “if they demonstrate on Wednesday, I will organize the three northern regions to demonstrate on Thursday.”
The Chiefs, queenmothers and youth in the Volta region announced their intentions of demonstrating against the government when the President, John Mahama paid a working visit to the area last weekend.
The residents are complaining about the lack of development in the region and the President’s seeming neglect of the region, hence their decision to demonstrate on Wednesday if government fails to announce any concrete decisions to solve their problems.
Mr. Adams however believes the people of the Volta Region are not being fair to the President.
He compared the number of votes from the three northern regions with that of the Volta Region saying, “go to Northern region; there are roads that are more deplorable than those in the Volta region”.
He also urged the chiefs and queen mothers of the area to “stop inciting the youth against the government”.
He also added that “the tension is too much they should leave him alone to rule the country. He was voted by the people of Ghana and not Volta region alone”.
