Security men working at the New Patriotic Party(NPP) headquarters have clashed with new security guards appointed by the new executives.
The clashes took place on Monday at the party’s National Head quarters at Asylum Down in Accra.
According to Citi News’ Fred Djabanor who was at the scene, the Police had to be called in to restore law and order.
Reports indicate that the clashes started when the new guards attempted to take over security duties at the party’s headquarters.
This was resisted by old guards who said they had not been informed about the changes.
According to an eye witnesses, the new guards believed to have been appointed by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong forcibly went to remove the old guards which nearly turned into a blood bath.
Narrating the incident to Citi News Nana Kyei Baffour, a victim who sustained some injuries, said some men entered the reception and started hitting the reception’s door until it was totally destroyed.
“I met the reception lady then she told me they will return about 10: 00 so they gave me a seat . After 30 minutes I saw about six boys shouting, and shouting .They came to the reception and tried climbing upstairs but the gate was locked so they returned and started hitting the reception’s door until it was destroyed,” Nana Kyei Baffour explained.
Meanwhile first Vice Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay has denied knowledge of a change in security guards at the NPP Headquarters.
“I was with the Chairman yesterday[Sunday] and nothing of this sort came up so I am a bit surprised that this is happening”
He also emphasized the need to manage the party’s internal conflicts.
“There are insults, insinuations here and there and this is part of the game and part of a good party and we need to organize it to manage it,” Mr. Blay stated.
This incident will be seen as a challenge to the new executives of the party. Analysts say the new executives led by the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko are struggling to take full control of the party.
