The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of planning to rig the 2016 general elections.
According to the NPP it is aware of the NDC’s strategy to rig the 2016 presidential elections.
Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Samuel Payne said “whatever plans they [NDC] intend putting up to the get one million, if it is any clandestine thing, we are going to expose them big time’’.
The NDC launched an ‘operation one million votes’ in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday. The project according to the party is to work and win one million votes in the stronghold of the NPP.
But the NPP said they are equally working hard to expose all the negative plots the NDC is hatching to facilitate rigging the elections.
The NPP is also accusing the NDC of sending non-residents in the region who would register and vote during the elections.
“When the time comes we are going to tell them our peace of mind; we are also working to expose them, ’he noted.
The Ashanti Regional NDC has however, rejected the allegations saying the proposed one million vote’s campaign will be achieved by mere hard work and proper strategy.
The NPP secured 1,531,152 representing 70.86% of total votes in the 2012 presidential elections. The figure dropped from 74.39% in the re-run of 2008 presidential elections.
The NDC would be boosted knowing it obtained 612,616 votes representing 28.35% of total regional votes in the 2012 presidential elections. This results is approximately a 2.5% increase in the 2008 performance where it secured 25.61% in the presidential ballot.
