Ashesi University over the weekend held its tenth graduation ceremony in grand style, celebrating the graduating class of 2014.
Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, CEO of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications was guest speaker at this year’s commencement ceremony.

It was the very first graduation ceremony held on the Ashesi University College Campus, and it was an amazing turnout with over 1,000 friends, family, students and alumni coming to celebrate a successful four years for the class of 2014.
This was the first ceremony to be held on the University Campus, and there was trending theme of leaving a legacy, friendship, and hope.
The Provost, Dr. Marcia Grant read a note on friendship from Aung San Suu Kyi, encouraging the graduating class to acknowledge and cherish the friendships made over the years. Jeffery Odame-Koranteng who graduated with a Bsc. in Business Administration delivered this year’s class speech.
The President, Dr. Patrick Awuah, in his short address, encouraged the students to keep doing the remarkable things they started in the school, and not forget to give back to society.

“You have done some remarkably bold things. You have dared to do so a lot of interesting things and in so doing, you’re making the world a better place. As you prepare to become Ashesi alumni, do not forget the satisfaction of daring to act and making your dreams real” he said.
“The quality of graduates who have been through Ashesi are comparable to the top tier anywhere in the world, and this is not just because of what they studied here, but who they have and will become.” Kwaku Sakyi-Addo also spoke about how well the school has moulded its alumni over the past ten years.
“You are among a select few who have come this far because only 80% of children who enroll in basic school stay through to the end. And of the 80, fewer than 20% complete secondary school. And only 2% were subsequently enrolled in a tertiary institution,” He emphasized the truth that the graduating class are the privileged few who have been given the opportunity to make a difference in the country and the continent.

On behalf of the graduating class, Jeffery Odame-Koranteng informed those present that “let us not forget what went on within these classrooms. Let us not forget the holistic education we’ve had. To quote a favourite lecturer of ours, ‘start where you are with what you have and above all, be the change you want to see in the world.”
