Airtel Ghana was awarded the CSR Company of the Year Award for Outstanding Contribution in Corporate Social Responsibility at the Ghana Telecoms Awards held over the weekend.
The CSR Company of the Year award recognizes Airtel’s outstanding contributions as a corporate citizen in Ghana during the year 2013.
According to the organizers, Airtel as a corporate citizen has developed systematic CSR programs by integrating CSR into its business model, taking advantage of its expertise in information and communications technology to promote innovation and contribute to community development. The panel acknowledges that Airtel Ghana has also been partnering with government agencies and NGOs regarding long-term capacity building in education, health care, economic development, soccer, etc.
Since entering Ghana in 2008, Airtel Ghana has achieved remarkable accomplishments through its CSR efforts, such as Airtel Ghana Touching Lives, Airtel Rising Stars, Millennium Development Project and its Schools Adoption Program.
In recent times, Airtel Ghana teamed up with the Ministry of Health by donating 1500 mobile handsets and Airtel SIM cards in support of the ministry’s community based health planning and services programme (CHPS). The community health programme is an initiative by the Ghana Health Service and Ministry of Health aimed at providing on the ground health-care to inhabitants of the community.
In addition to its many CSR Hallmarks, Airtel as part of its philanthropic endeavour and a passionate commitment to contribute to the communities in which they operate, the company will be sponsoring the 13-part TV show which aims to change the lives of people living in trying circumstances by giving them an opportunity to fulfil their life long dreams. Targeting individuals and communities with a story to tell, ‘Airtel Touching Lives Season 3’ offers a platform to celebrate humanity whilst inspiring hope and enhancing people’s quality of life. The show which identifies extraordinary men and women from all walks of life with dire needs and Airtel will enable them to change their lives.
