The Police in the Ashanti region, Kumasi have arrested three women for allegedly stealing a day-old baby at the Kumasi Children’s Home.
Speaking to Citi News, the Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Regina Mintah said the Police arrested the suspects after being tipped off that Cecilia Anor, a trader at Kumasi Polytechnic had in her custody a stolen baby boy.
“Cecilia Anor was having in her custody a baby boy who was suspected not to be hers so the Police gathered intelligence to that effect and that led to her arrest,” ASP Mintah explained.
ASP Mintah further noted that Cecilia, after her arrest, confessed to the Police that she collected the baby from a typist at the Kumasi Children’s home known as Comfort Agyei.
Meanwhile, the three suspects are currently in police custody, assisting the police in their investigations.
The theft follows a similar incident at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) which led to the suspension of the doctor and nurse on duty at the hospital when the baby went missing.
The Health Ministry, since the news broke, has been making efforts to unravel the circumstances under which the baby went missing.
