How many times have you said the word sorry today? You might be using it more than you realize—and that’s the message behind this provocative new commercial from Pantene.
Enlightening, right?
Obviously, it’s important to apologize when you’re in the wrong. If you raise your voice at your partner or forget your friend’s birthday, go ahead and whip out the s-word.
But many of us might also be frequently saying sorry for things that aren’t our fault and not even notice it. So, with that in mind, we rounded up 10 things you should never, ever, ever say you’re sorry about:
1. Winning that Scrabble match. Or that one-on-one basketball game. Or that baking competition. Moral of the story: Never apologize for being good at something. Own it.
2. When someone bumps into you.
3. Your five-minute-long Starbucks order. You’re the one paying for it—drink whatever you want, lady.
4. Taking a minute—or a day, or a week—to think over a big decision.
5. The meal you busted your butt over. If your guests don’t like pineapple upside-down cake, then they should have baked dessert.
6. Your appearance. Since when did it become necessary for your outfit, hairstyle, and makeup to look their absolute best at all times? There are somany more important things.
7. Needing some alone time. It’s understandable and essential—not selfish.
8. Asking your partner to try that position that feels just OK for him but ah-mazing for you.
9. Disagreeing with someone’s opinion. As long as you make your point respectfully, you’re 1,000 percent entitled to it.
10. Crying. Period.
