The Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Aminu Sulemani is advising Ghanaians to stop relying on politicians to see their children through school.
According to him, politicians are very greedy people whose promises cannot be trusted saying, “politicians are very greedy people so don’t think that they will help your child to be like them, don’t rely on them completely for the education of your children.”
President John Mahama in his 2014 state of the nation address revealed government’s intentions of implementing a free senior high school education system in accordance with the 1992 Constitution.
Government in a bid to make education more appealing and to encourage parents to educate their children has also rolled out a policy to distribute free school uniforms, books and the latest being shoes to students in deprived districts.
But addressing this year’s first session of the Sissala West District Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Sulemani said it is high time Ghanaians stopped the over- reliance on politicians and urged them to take responsibility for their children’s education.
He said: “Ensure that you contribute your own so that we come in to help. I am a politician and we are very greedy people.”
“A lot of us have left the fate of our children’s education to politicians. The Politicians will attempt, they will pretend that they are supporting but it is not going to go far. They are our children, let’s make it a point to strife whatever little resources we have to see what we can do and if others can give their support, they do. You can’t just throw your child to go to DCE or any other politician,” he added.
He further advised parents to contribute their quota to ensuring that they give their children quality education.
