The National Security Council Secretariat has scheduled a meeting with the authorities of the University of Ghana over the reconstruction of tollbooths at the Okponglo entry point of the university.

A few months ago, the National Security pulled down a tollbooth constructed by the authorities of the university, citing the heavy traffic on the Accra-Madina-Aburi highway as a result of the siting of the booth there.

According to the university authorities, the former National Security Coordinator acted ultra vires in ordering the demolition of the tollbooth and explained that the tollbooth was to generate revenue to pay back a loan contracted by the university to rehabilitate roads there.

A press release signed by Col E.W.K. Nibo (Retd) of the National Security Council Secretariat stated that “it had come to the notice of the National Security Council Secretariat that the tollbooth that was under construction by the University of Ghana, Legon, which was pulled down because it was causing public nuisance in the flow of traffic on the main Accra-Madina-Aburi Highway is currently being reconstructed by the university authorities at the same location”.
