The Dean of social sciences at the University of Cape Coast, Prof.Stephen Kandie has advised teachers in the country to strictly adhere to the professional standards of teaching to improve education standards in Ghana.
He said no government intervention can bring the desired impact on the quality of education without committed and quality teachers.
The Professor was speaking to the media after he donated school uniforms to 90 needy pupils of the Wallembelle L /A Primary School in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region where he started formal education.
The donation was in remembrance of the late paramount chief of the Wallembelle traditional area, Kuoro Mumuni Dimbie II, who happened to be the first teacher of the Professor.
Prof. Kandie said: “Teachers have to understand that teaching is a profession and they have to ensure that the professional standards are maintained. Without good teachers, nothing can happen. I always say that the teacher is the most important individual in the school. It doesn’t http://www.ourhealthissues.com/product/kamagra/ matter which school you attend, if the teacher is not good, you will get nothing out of it.”
He blamed the falling standards of education in the country on inadequate trained teacher, saying, “we are not doing well in the schools because we are not having the right kind of quality teachers.”
The Prof expressed grave concerns over the persistent shortage of trained teachers in the three northern regions and advised existing ones to continue to upgrade themselves to meet the changing trends in education.
“Teachers need to upgrade themselves. The situation where you have so many untrained teachers in the schools especially in the northern sector is very dangerous,” he observed.
Mr.Kacholi Andrew Tiibie, headmaster of the Wallembelle L /A Primary School, who received the uniforms on behalf of the pupils, thanked the Prof for the gesture.
He said it will augment the 27 uniforms that were allocated to the school under the government’s free school uniform programme.
