Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is inching closer to a landmark 40 goals in one season for his club side Al Ain.
The player got his second brace in consecutive games on Thursday as his club drew 2-2 Al Jazira in the Arabian Gulf League clash.
Gyan’s two goals have taken him to 28 goals in 25 games – and hence the league’s top scorer spot – ahead of Argentine forward Sebastian Tagliabue.
Gyan’s stats since Al Ain move
2011/2012 – 22 goals in 18 league games (27 in all competitions)
2012/2013 – 31 goals in 22 league games (32 in all competitions)
2013/2014 – 28 goals in 25 league games (36 in all competitions so far)
Total haul- 81 goals in 65 league games (95 in all competitions)
The Black Star is aiming for his third straight top scorer gong, after winning the award in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons.
This season alone, Gyan has now cumulatively scored 36 goals in 36 games in all competitions and Ghana will hope this form translates in June’s World Cup in Brazil.
‘The Baby Jet’, who only launched his personal website days ago, is also in contention for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana Awards (SWAG) Personality of the Year.
And, oh, he needs just five goals to reach the magical 100 goals mark since leaving England for the Emirates. Machine.
