Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has served notice to Germany and Portugal to be mindful of Ghana since they can pull an upset at the 2014 World Cup.
The Gunner says it will be erroneous for Germany and Portugal to underestimate the strength of the Black Stars at the global football showpiece since they have “a good team”
The Black Stars have been housed in Group G with USA, Germany and Portugal at Brazil 2014. The Frenchman has predicted an “extremely difficult” battle in this group and although he tips Germany and Portugal as favourites, he feels Ghana can be the surprise package.
“Germany and Portugal might be the favourites, but be careful of Ghana!” Wenger wrote in his Eurosport World Cup preview. “They almost reached the semi-finals in South Africa. They have a good team.”
The Gunners’ manager predicted that it is going to be a straight fight between Germany and Portugal.
He said: “Germany are the favourites, but Portugal are always a tough team to beat, as they showed during the Poland/Ukraine European Championships. It will be extremely difficult.
“I’d say Germany first, then Portugal. Should we expect a surprise in the first game between Germany and Portugal? You never know, but I still think Germany are the favourites.”
Ghana will be opening their group game with the Stars and Stripes on June 16 in Natal.
