Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed the belief of his team-mates in coach Kwesi Appiah ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Appiah is the first Ghanaian coach to fully handle the senior team at the game’s biggest competition but Gyan believes the former assistant coach is very capable of leading the team to glory despite his background as a local tactician.
” We have seen different coaches with different tactics and it does not matter whether the coach is of a local kind or not.
The players are there to work for him and the nation and to listen to his tactical guidance and we are very ready to do that.
Above all, he is Ghanaian and that means he understands us very well and knows how to get us going”, Gyan said in an interview with GH One Television.
Appiah oversaw the team’s qualification to Brazil with some good performances especially the massive 6-1 victory over Egypt in the final round play-offs and Gyan indicated that there is a lot of confidence on the side of the playing body for the coach.
” Everything has worked out well so far under the coach. He listens to us all the time and he has a good working relationship with us.
He adds the experience he has acquired over the years to what we talk about and it helps.
We like how things have gone and we appreciate him. We think he is a great person.”
Gyan and his team-mates are currently in Holland for the team’s pre-World Cup training camp and will face the Dutch national team in a friendly match on Saturday, 31st May at the De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam.
