The newly elected national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko has urged all members of the party to unite and win power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections
In his acceptance speech after a prolonged battle to win the position, Mr. Afoko said: “As you go home, prepare for government, prepare for power.”
He expressed his profound gratitude to the delegates for his election and admonished party members to “force as a team, let us unite to take this party back to power in 2016.”
Mr. Afoko also appealed to the delegates to see him as an individual who is willing to work for the ultimate good of the party.
“Don’t see Paul Afoko and see any other person attached to him, just see me as an individual,” he said.
Steven Ntim who lost out on the chairmanship slot gave a solidarity message on behalf of his colleagues.
According to him, the end results of the elections should be viewed as a win for the NPP saying, “victory is for the NPP in the sense that we have been able, collectively, elect our new set of national officers to steer the affairs of this party in preparation for the 206 elections.”
He commended the delegates for eschewing violence and acrimony during the election process and urged them to continue in unity.
