The CAL Bank customer who was shot by a police officer on duty at the bank’s Derby Avenue branch in Accra has sued the bank for GHC1.5 million.
In a suit filed against Cal Bank and three others joined, the plaintiff, Nathaniel Nortey is praying the court in the suit to make a declaration that the said unwarranted shooting and injuries caused him a breach of what he described as “inalienable, inviolable fundamental human right to life, dignity, safety, privacy of the person enshrined in the 1992 constitution and other international humans charters he quoted’’.
He is also asking the court to direct the four respondents to pay One million Ghana Cedis as consequential damages for the losses suffered as a result of the breach of these rights.
The plaintiff again wants the court to order the respondents [Inspector General of Police, Attorney General, Corporal Benard Frimpong and Cal Bank] to pay another GHC 500,000 as constitutional damages for the breach of his fundamental rights.
Nathaniel Nortey was one of two customers who sustained gunshot wounds at the Derby Avenue branch of CAL Bank on Saturday the 8th day of March, 2014.
The police officer on duty, Corporal Bernard Frimpong opened fire in the banking hall after an altercation with Mr. Nortey. Today he filed a suit against CAL Bank, The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Corporal Bernard Frimpong and the Attorney General.
