Police in the Ashanti region have arrested 40 armed robbers in a swoop. Some of whom are alleged to have killed their victims in the robbing process.
Speaking to Citi News, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye said the suspect, Osei George, 16 years, together with his accomplice aged 19 years on the April, 3 2014 at about 12:30 am attacked one Owusu Francis, a cobbler residing at Pampamso- a suburb of Kumasi, robbed him of GHC 70 and stabbed him in the head.
According to DCOP Boakye, one of the policemen on the night patrol team unexpectedly appeared on the scene and arrested the two suspects.
In a related development, the Regional Police Command has also arrested three suspected armed robbers; Ernest Gyau an excavator operator, Osei Kofi, a mason and Mathias Quiston, a farmer for allegedly robbing vehicles and passengers on the Mantrabom Highway.
Meanwhile, 19 other suspected armed robbers have been declared wanted by the regional Police Command.
DCOP Kofi Boakye however says the Police Command will on Thursday parade all the 40 suspected armed robbers for identification by the public for further scrutiny before they are put before the law court.
All 40 suspected criminals are currently in Police custody pending further investigations by the Regional Police Command.
