jailTwo executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sissala East Constituency were on Tuesday convicted by a Tumu Magistrate Court presided over by Salifu Buguri Ayajiba (ESQ).

Mahama Razak, the constituency organizer and the deputy constituency treasurer, Mujeeb Ayamga were convicted to a one-week jail term each for assaulting one Batong Alhassan Huaru, a former constituency youth organizer of the NDC.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Sissala East constituency secretary of the NDC, Muftaw Fasasi, described the judgment as doom for the governing party in the area. He said the convicts have been very pivotal in the growth of the NDC in the area.

The secretary however conceded that the party is facing some internal wrangling in the district but blamed it on some leading members at the regional and national levels “who have in the recent past, disregarded the constituency executives” ,making it difficult to run the party in that constituency. Usually we have some intra-conflicts but what we experienced today was an indictment and it’s all because of some individuals who are bent on destroying the party in this area.”

Mr. Fasasi revealed that the executives in an emergency meeting resolved to challenge the court’s verdict at an undisclosed higher court.

The constituency secretary expressed grave concern about recent happenings within the NDC in the area.

He said if unchecked, the situation could have dare consequences for the party and the district at large saying, “we think that if this case is not handled properly, it will open up the party for a lot of problems in future which we or any other person cannot manage.”

Citi News sources at the Sissala East District Police Command revealed that the convicts have been processed to be sent to the Wa central prisons to begin their sentences
