The northern regional police command has beefed up security presence in the Chereponi district.
Additional police personnel from the Yendi divisional command were dispatched to Chereponi to maintain law and order there.
An eyewitness told Citi news on Saturday, March 22, 2014 that some irate youth in the area attacked the district police station.
This, according to the eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, said was in retaliation to the arrest of their colleague fuel attendant in the district.
According to him, the police arrested the said fuel attendant upon suspicion that he had sold adulterated fuel to them.
Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah condemned the act and told Citi News the police will not spare anybody caught flouting the laws of the land.
“All that I want to tell the youth there is that they cannot take the law into their own hands, causing damage to vehicles and attacking police personnel.”
He bemoaned, “We will be chasing them and we are going to get all the leaders and prosecute them.”
