A former minister for Local Government and Rural Development Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has been appointed the board chairman of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
Other members of the new board include the Director General of the authority Ray Anamoo and the Chief Executive of Ghana Shippers’ Authority Dr Kofi Mbiah.
The rest are the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Founder and Managing Director of Shaaba Enterprises Limited Seth Adjei Baah, Mrs. Matilda Langlah, T-A Selby, George Ato Botchey, Capt. James Owusu-Koranteng, Jacob Kwabla Adorkor, George T. Quarshie and Adams Ayarna.
The new board was sworn in this week by transport minister Dzifa Attivor.
Speaking at the swearing in ceremony Dzifa Attivor said, ‘as a result of the increase in activities, the Tema port has been experiencing congestion…in the case of Takoradi port, activities related to the oil find have put lots of pressure on some of the facilities at the port’.
She charged the newly sworn in board to develop innovative programs to source for funding to accelerate expansion works.
The chairman of the board Samuel Ofosu Ampofo expressed the commitment of the new board members to achieve the immediate objectives of the authority.
After expressing gratitude to the president for the appointment, he said, ‘I will fully support the government and the management of GPHA to accomplish its ongoing plans and programs’.
