President John Dramani Mahama has promised residents of the Western Region massive improvement in road networks in the region.
This he said is to boost business activities in the region.
He made the comment on his tour of the Western Region to inspect progress on the Abidjan-Lagos transport and trade facilitation project.
Addressing the gathering, the President accepted that the main developmental issue affecting the region is road network and pledged that “government is going to invest a lot of money in improving the roads in the Western Region.”
The region is the hub of oil and gas production in Ghana therefore rehabilitating its road infrastructure is essential.
The President pledged that his government “is taking a very serious look at the roads in the region and that we will upgrade them accordingly.”
He conversely asked the residents to be patient with his government because other road networks across the country need rehabilitating saying, “the fact that the government is not working on your road immediately does not mean that it does not intend to do so.”
President Mahama acknowledged that government does not have the resources to simultaneously begin working on all road networks.
He is in the Western Region for a three-day working visit.
