The Executive Director of IMANI Ghana, Mr. Franklin Cudjoe has stated that the levels of energy poverty in the country have increased under the watch of the Minister of Energy, Mr. Kofi Buah

According to Mr. Cudjoe, Minister of Energy has in diverse miscommunicated the challenges facing the energy sector to Ghanaians effectively.

“I find it quite disconcerting that the three institutions that are responsible for power generation in this country, and the energy ministry doesn’t seem to be aligned in thought,” he said.

“If we can just get one single desk to which we can point to that this desk is telling us, this is what is happening at a one point in time and this is what we expect, I think that will be the beginning of some level of sanity,” he added.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) indicated that it expects to generate the required amount of power to end the load shedding and the frequent power outages by July 2014.

According to the VRA, they are working round the clock to put its thermal generating plants on stream bythe middle of the year to be able provide the needed megawatts of power.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, he expressed the hope that the assurance will become a reality.

“Every Ghanaian wants to have energy; every Ghanaian wants to have electricity, every company in this country is interested in guaranteed energy supply so these assurances are comforting but given the fact that we have heard it all before, we can only hope that these promises will become a reality,”he said
