The Leadership of Ghana’s Parliament has called a 2pm crisis meeting to discuss damaging bribery allegations made against “some MPs” by a former Leader of the House.
Majority Leader, Ben Kunbour, announced the planned meeting after an MP from the ruling NDC had sought the guidance of the Speaker on former Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin’s allegation that “there is some evidence that some MPs take bribes…”
The Nadowli Kaleo made the allegation over the weekend at a workshop for non-governmental organisations.
In raising the issue, Shai Osu Doku MP, David Assuming, said the guidance of the Speaker was essential to help probe the damaging allegations made by the former Leader.
In his ruling, Presiding Speaker, Joe Ghartey, said the issue was of “national importance” and that even though the MP who raised the issue in the floor did not follow the rules, the matter “will not be swept under the carpet.”
